Nearly 80 years ago, Ricardo Hernández and Concepción Castillo founded Los Nogales in Pitalito, Huila, planting the seeds of a family legacy rooted in coffee.
Their youngest son, Ricaurte
Hernández, became the visionary who turned the farm into a beacon of innovation, alongside his wife Suldery Arango. In 2005, their dedication earned national acclaim when Los Nogales won Colombia's Cup of Excellence. After Ricaurte's tragic death in 2013, his son Oscar Fernando took over, blending tradition with sustainability, research, and environmental stewardship.
One of the most remarkable results of this evolution is this decaffeinated coffee, crafted through a natural process that preserves flavour while removing 95% of the caffeine. Using hand-selected cherries, gentle caffeine extraction with coffee pulp-derived solvent, and a 96-hour sourdough fermentation, the beans are finished with slow drying for optimal quality. The result is a decaf with vibrant notes of banana, papaya, candy sweetness, creaminess, and cinnamon - a true reflection of their legacy and innovation in every cup.
