Another great coffee from our dear friend and farmer Mr. Rodolfo.
His farm, Finca El Salvador (FES) situated in the Santa Ana mountain range, has rich volcanic soil and ranges from 1350 to 1670 masl.
The farm is split in half. In the lower part he mainly grows disease resistant hybrid varieties like tabi and portillo. The upper part of the farm is where he grows the more experimental and exotic varieties like Sudan Rume, Sidra, Pacamaras and this one: Kenya Juana.
Juana refers to Mrs. Juana Salvadora Barrientos, owner of finca San Francisco in the Buenos Aires region where his Kenya trees are originally from.
The story goes that Rodolfo gave this coffee to Rubens Gardelli who competed with it in the World Brewers Cup in 2014 where he was robbed of his first place and came second. So far we haven’t been able to validate this story (: All we know is that the coffees from Rodolfo may not be around forever because there are rumors of him ripping out his coffee trees and planting bamboo instead. Somehow we don’t really see Rodolfo as a Bamboo farmer, but he is a man of many talents.
Ok cool, but what does it taste like?
The coffees from Finca El Salvador are always really sweet with a big juicy body. This one underwent 120 hours of fermentation in cherry which gives it some boozyness and some funkyness. Think of rum raisins, alcoholic apricots and plum wine peaches.
