This coffee is sourced from the Rumudamo washing station in the village of Arbegona, Sidama, at an elevation of 2,200 MASL. Approximately 600 local smallholder farmers contribute their cherries to create this lot, primarily consisting of the Heirloom 74112 variety. For this anaerobic lot, expect an intensified version of the washed counterpart. It presents as a clean coffee with heightened flavor intensity. We find notes of lemon and lime, juicy green grape, and delicate purple florals.
Rumudamo is managed by Asefa Dukamo Korma of Daye Bensa, who are also the exporters for this and many of our other lots from Sidama. This site gained global recognition after placing 2nd and 3rd in the inaugural Ethiopian Cup of Excellence in 2020. Coffee here is grown at some of the highest elevations in the world, producing some of our favorite flavor profiles.
Cherries are collected at peak ripeness. Once sorted and floated the cherries are placed in sealed barrels to ferment without water for 144 hours. The cherries are then depulped and washed. Following this stage the seeds are moved to drying tables where they are dried on raised beds for 16-20 days.
